Why Do Many Celebrities Suffer from Mental Problems

Veteran comedian Lee Kyung-kyu (52), who regularly appears on several TV shows, recently confessed that he has been taking medication to treat panic attacks for four months. The revelation has instantly turned the spotlight on mental disorders or depressions many people in showbusiness are vulnerable to.

“I constantly felt like I was suffocating and felt scared of dying,” Lee said. His fans were shocked by his confession, as Lee always exuded a happy-go-lucky persona on TV as an entertainer skilled at making viewers laugh.

Panic disorders involve extreme feelings of anxiety or even panic attacks for no reason and occur unexpectedly. Over the past several years, a growing number of entertainers have admitted to suffering from similar problems. Singer Kim Jang-hoon fainted last October as he was about to go on stage for a concert in Seoul and had to be hospitalized. He complained of lethargy, insomnia and a rapid heart rate.

Meanwhile, actor Cha Tae-hyun (36), famous for his comedic roles, told viewers last year that he too was wrestling with a panic disorder. “I began to suffer from the disease when a top actor was cast for a role in a rival TV drama after the show I was appearing in continued to do poorly in ratings,” Cha confessed. He also recalled that he fainted during a flight and asked for an oxygen mask. And on one occasion he had to call an ambulance 30 minutes before a concert in the U.S.

Actress Kim Ha-neul admitted to a similar problem while playing a visually impaired person in the movie “Blind” last year. “My sense of panic also led to claustrophobia and I found it really difficult to film for more than two hours inside a small space,” she said.

Jun Jin of the veteran boy band Shinhwa said he often fretted irrationally about the stage collapsing when he was performing, while actress Ha Yoo-mi said she literally got tongue-tied on stage as a panic attack led to the temporary paralysis of her tongue and face.

Singer Choi Jeong-won of the former boy duo UN recalled having to quit his singing career when his panic disorder worsened in 2006, causing his hands and feet to tremble and giving him difficulty breathing while recording albums.

Experts say that two to three out of every 100 people suffer from panic disorders in Korea, while the disease afflicts 11 percent of Americans. They say almost twice as many women are affected as men.

“People who are ambitious, who are perfectionists and who have stage fright often tend to suffer from panic disorders,” said Park Jin-saeng, a psychiatrist who treated actress Choi Jin-sil for depression before she killed herself in 2008. “Entertainers or politicians have greater chances of suffering from those kinds of disorders than other people,” he added.

Park said that celebrities get energized when their popularity soars, but when they are no longer in the limelight, they feel a sense of loss and become anxious, often resulting in insomnia, depression, and over-reliance on medication.

Lee Ji Ah Leaves Bae Yong Joon’s Agency

Lee Ji Ah has declined to extend her contract with Key East Entertainment, the agency best known for its owner, Bae Yong Joon. This would put an end to her five year relationship with Key East, which began in 2007 with the MBC drama “Tae Wang Sa Shin Ki (The Legend).”

On January 11, a Key East official told OSEN, "We've finally decided not to pursue an extension with Lee Ji Ah. It wasn't about the contractual terms or monetary issues, but because both parties understood 'change' was needed."

It continued, "While under Key East, Lee Ji Ah went through a lot of issues, particularly last year lawsuit against Seo Taiji, and she was committed to restarting her actress career. From our perspective too, regardless of the contract, we wanted to support her moving forward. We wish for her success as a person or actress in the future."

Lee Ji Ah’s contract with Key East was terminated on December 31. The official said she still hasn’t found a new agency yet, and they will work together to find the best possible agency for her career. Despite getting involved in one of the most shocking scandals in Korean entertainment history, Lee Ji Ah has been able to keep her career alive, even making a comeback through MBC drama, “I’m a Flower, Too.” Industry officials largely credit Key East for making this possible, but with her decision to leave the agency, it should be interesting to see how her career pans out this year.

Rain chooses family, pride, and respect for his fans as the driving forces behind his career

It’s just been revealed that Rain participated in an interview with the Give Media Gift, a collaboration project with Naver‘s Happy Bean charity service.
Rain donated his personal mic and stage uniform to the cause. Should 5,000 people donate as well, his items will go up for auction to ensure a greater donation amount, which will all go towards helping children from low-income families.
In his interview, Rain was asked what the driving force behind his 11-year career was. He replied that family, personal pride, and respect for his fans were what kept him grounded throughout the years.
“At the time, I had to have economic power in society for my family’s wellbeing. At the thought of many seniors and people watching me, I also had to have pride in myself and my music to ensure that I would always be presenting progressive and improved music on stage,” said Rain.
Rain continued, “I respect my fans and genuinely thank them for purchasing such expensive albums, acknowledging my effort, and always watching over me. It was through them that I realized that I had to create and perform better music. From my youth, I remember the devastation, pain, hope, and finally bravery.”
As a message to the kids, he expressed, “Opportunity and success will come to those who wait. I believe that there is a car called Fate in life. Everyone is riding on a car of fate, just that for some, the road they’re on has traffic, which just requires a change in lane to pick up the pace again.”
Concluding the interview, he said, “I’d like to tell my juniors and everyone around me that if you work hard and wait, all of your dreams and hopes can come true.”

If people ask me, what will I recommend them to watch... I'll definitely says 'Me Too, Flower!'

At first I've a doubt about this drama, looking at the rating and my bad habit of reading a reviews makes it even worse. Watching this drama gives me a clear vision of it, now I wonder what is wrong with those reviews and ratings? this drama is so underrated. If I'm going to compare it to some crappy drama I've watch back then on 2011 this is definitely the best.

Some bloggers even stated that this drama is the 2011 hidden gem, and I cannot not agreeing with her. While others watch what have been popularized by some marketing news, this drama gains just a little attention from everyone. I wonder if the reason for being so underrated is because of Lee Ji Ah's scandals... wah~ that is so childish.

Reason why you have to watch this drama is, the line of actors, Yoon Si Yoon, Lee Ji Ah, Seo Hyo Rim, Ha Go Eun, and Jo Min Ki. The list goes on and every one of them is a strong character with a great chemistry.

The fact that Yoon Si Yoon look pretty young for the role of Seo Jae Hee did gives me a second thought, but after watching him in this new character I guess being a replacement wasn't a bad idea at all. I wonder how will Kim Jae Won display Seo Jae Hee... will I think the same now? When other think he look too young for his character, I look it in a different way, the way he talks, the words he says, his eyes and the ways he walks... he is much more matured than that.

Lee Ji Ah who just came out from her hiding prove that she's not just a flower, she is pretty and talented as well. The way she portrays Cha Bong Sun the bad temper, sometimes sweet, sometimes irritating, sometimes lovely, she owns all the emotions but keep it inside her makes her looks cold and just a bad temper cop. I like how Cha bong Sun slowly open up, even when she says no the way she react show us her hidden words.

Other characters makes the story goes on, actually there is no bad character, everyone just want to survive, even  in the name of love, everyone want to to be love. Since it ends beautifully, the rating doesn't matter anymore, sometimes I just hope I can keep both Jae Hee and Bong Sun in my diaries, so there is no end for their love story.

The story started slow but slow doesn't mean it's bad. Overall, I love it!
