Investigators suspect that Jang Ja Yeon’s letters were fabricated

On March 10th, investigators from the National Institute of Scientific Investigation have revealed that they suspect the handwritten letters left behind by the late actress Jang Ja Yeon may in fact be fabricated.

After netizens demanded that Jang Ja Yeon’s case be re-opened, police obtained the rights to investigate the letters in question on March 9th and detailed their findings below.

Investigators found a total of seven areas in 23 letters and 5 envelopes that brought up suspicions of fabrication. In their investigation, police discovered a faint line between the postmarked and recipient information. It was also revealed that parts of the letters, such as the postmark information, were cut up and pasted onto other letters before being sent to court. The part of the envelopes that contained the recipient information were revealed to have been cut 4cm x 1cm on three different envelopes, while others had holes punched in them.

An individual named Jun (31) had revealed the existence of these letters, but considering the new forensic details of their handling, police are suspecting Jun of “intentionally attempting to hide where the letters were sent from.”

Police also found that out of the 2,439 letters that were exchanged from jail during the period of November 2003 to March 2010, none were sent by anyone named Jang Ja Yeon or her alias, ‘Sulhwa.’ Additionally, Jun was found to have been in possession of over 1,000 A4 papers that police suspected were used for copying.

The National Institute of Scientific Investigation claimed that they will re-investigate the case once they find confirmation that the letters were indeed handwritten by Jang Ja Yeon.

Extra News:

Yesterday, the National Institute of Scientific Investigation claimed that Jang Ja Yeon’s letters could have been fabricated. Today, SBS’s “8 o’clock News” released an interview with the chief of the International Forensic Science Laboratory, who refuted the reports of fabrication.

On March 10th, SBS reported that they had given copies of Jang Ja Yeon’s letters to a professional for a second opinion. After thoroughly studying the documents, Lee Hee Il, chief of the IFSL, revealed, “In these letters, the way that certain characters like ‘yo’ and ‘ya’ were written coincide directly with the writing habits of the late actress Jang Ja Yeon. The way the consonants and vowels were written are exactly alike, proving that these letters were written by the same person.”

Comparison of the handwriting in the letter on the left, to Jang Ja Yeon's original handwriting on the right

SBS further added, “It is virtually impossible for Jun to have perfected the handwriting of Jang Ja Yeon by copying the picture of her suicide note from a newspaper. He could not have written 230 letters in her copied handwriting with such limited information, and it is also unlikely that three years worth of letters were merely the result of a concocted plan.”

They continued, “The letters also reveal detailed information regarding her agency’s advancement plans, as well as information on the figures she ‘hosted’ that others would not be able to know. If anything, the letters and envelopes show that Jun tried his best to make sure that Jang Ja Yeon’s identity was not leaked through the letters.”

NISI official reporting to the media that Jang Ja Yeon's letters might be fabricated

A congressman of the democratic party also recently demanded that the investigators and police stop lying to the public about this alleged “fabrication”. He demanded, “The police are fooling the public. This is not the first time that investigators and the police pretended to reveal ‘information’ to the public without any proper evidence or information on even a portion of the case. You must stop this immediately.”

Netizens also refused to believe the reports by commenting, “Just because the envelopes were damaged does not mean that the details of the letters were fabricated.”

On March 8th, a women’s organization had opened a press conference in front of the Ministry of Gender Equality & Family building and demanded that proper investigations be made.

Once the Ministry failed to react or respond, one netizen began a silent one man protest in front of the Ministry of Gender Equality Building for two hours on March 10th. He held a sign that read, “A Ministry of Gender Equality & Family that remains silent in the face of Jang Ja Yeon’s controversy has no right to exist in this nation.”

Netizens uncover offenders’ names from the ‘Jang Ja Yeon list'

Korea is reeling with shock over the news that netizens have uncovered some names from Jang Ja Yeon’s 31 offenders. The late star’s handwritten letters were revealed a few days back, and reportedly, they contained a list naming the men she was forced to ‘host’.

The alleged list reads as follows:
  • CEO of Chosun Journal – Bang Sang Hoon
  • Vice-President of Sports Chosun – Bang Myung Hoon
  • Chosun Central Journal’s Director of Advertising – Lee Jae Young
  • Chairman of Kolon – Lee Woong Ryeol
  • Chairman of Lotte – Shin Kyuk Ho
  • Former KBS PD, CEO of Olive 9 – Go Dae Hwa
  • Producer (PD) of KBS’s “Geumji Ok Yeob” - Jun Chang Geun

The reaction to the revealed ‘list’ has been explosive, so much so that on March 9th, Chosun Journal was forced to clarify that their CEO was not involved in the matter whatsoever. “The CEO of Chosun Journal that Jang Ja Yeon named has been confirmed to actually be the former CEO of Sports Chosun. The reason why Jang Ja Yeon wrote ‘Chosun Journal’ is because the CEO of her agency, Kim Jong Seung, insisted on calling the former CEO of ‘Sports Chosun’ as ‘just the CEO of Chosun Journal.’”

They continued, “According to investigations, the figure listed by Jang Ja Yeon is confirmed to be the former CEO of Sports Chosun. Despite this confirmation, the press is continuing to release reports stating that the CEO of Chosun Journal was on the list.”

Dentist Jung, “Sorry to MC Mong for Creating Misunderstanding"

The dentist of MC Mong, who is being investigated for taking payment and pulling out MC Mong’s teeth so that he can be except from serving in the army in return, cleared up some misunderstanding about the payment he received.

The 5th court session for MC Mong was held on the 7th.

The witness at the time was the dentist Jung and Kim. Jung is seen to be the key witness in the case.

Jung is the person who sent the letter to MC Mong back in October and apparently received a large sum of money from him.

He denied the accusations that the 80 million won that he received was for helping him to avoid serving in the army.

Jung said “the money I got from MC Mong was not because I helped him avoid service, but because he owed me that money since I invested in his online shopping mall.”

According to Jung, he invested 100 million won for his shopping mall and he received a total of 460 million won in return for the investment.

Jung said

“I couldn't ask for the money earlier since MC Mong suffered a little financially because of me tempting him to invest in something else. I had to ask him for money recently since the hospital had to close down because of the case.”

He also said that he returned all of the 460 million won after taking the 100 million won that he invested initially and that the accusations about him asking a different dentist to perform the teeth removal are all false.

Jung said “His teeth were in the worst possible states. Teeth number 35 was at the point that he couldn't even use it let alone fix it. I never asked a fellow dentist to perform the extraction and neither has MC Mong.”

He finished by saying

“I am sorry to him because the letter was revealed to the public, sparking rumors and false accusations. I didn't have any bad intentions but unfortunately, the media released the letter.”

MC Mong’s next court session is set to occur on the 28th. The last statement from the lawyers is set to happen on this day.

Public Pressure Grows over Probe into Actress' Suicide

Less than two years since the actress Jang Ja-yeon's suicide sparked a massive scandal due to her suicide note claiming that she was forced to perform sexual favors for influential figures, the police investigation of the events that led to her death is looking increasingly flawed. The case has reemerged after SBS disclosed 51 letters by Jang on Sunday implicating 31 people.

The TV network claimed it obtained the letters from an acquaintance of Jang's and said police knew of their existence at the time but did apparently ignored them.

Justice Minister Lee Gui-nam has now promised to review the letters and report his views to the National Assembly. He made the pledge at the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee on Monday when Democratic Party floor leader Park Jie-won asked if prosecutors will reopen the case.

Gyeonggi provincial police say they are trying to find out the truth and have asked SBS for copies of the letters.

Extra News:

Following SBS' release of the late actress Jang Ja Yeon's accusatory letters, there has been a fierce demand from the public to reopen the investigat into her suicide case.
As of late, the authorities have come under increasing public pressure to reopen the investigation of the suicide of Jang Ja Yeon, who alleged to have been forced into entertaining and providing unwilled sexual services for media heavyweights.
On March 7, 2009 the actress, aged 27, Jang was found dead in her home in Bundang, Gyeonggi Province after hanging herself.
At the demand of the public Justice Minister Lee Kwi Nam stated during a National Assembly meeting on Monday that he will consider reopening the case for further investigation.
The mass demand to reopen the case came after SBS released the main contents of the 230 pages of letters Jang had allegedly sent to one of her close aides between 2005 and just days before her death in March 2009, yesterday morning.
According to SBS, Jang wrote, ""I served 31 men. Everytime I changed my clothes I went to serve." Allegedly, the names of those she served are actually explicitly stated in the letter, and supposedly include the names of producers and other men involved in the entertainment industry. And according to SBS, the police were aware of Jang's letters but did not conduct a full investigation of them, as they claimed then that the letters were forged.
A police officer at Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency, which handled the case two years ago stated in regards to Jang's letters, "We will first confirm whether they were written by the late actress. The relationship between Jang and the aide is also subject to the probe."
Due to privacy concerns, SBS has not disclosed those names mentioned in Jang's letters, but did, allegedly, confirm the legitimacy of the letters by having professionals match the handwriting in the letters to that of Jang's.
The newly released letters gave the public a shocking insight as to how inhumane and humiliating Jang's situation truly was. She stated in her letters she was forced to "serve" the 31 aforementioned figures at karaoke joints and upscale bars on over 100 separate occasions. According to SBS's report, Jang also said that she was even made to skip a memorial event for her parents in order to "serve" them.
In one letter, Jang called them "evil", and made the haunting statement that she would "retaliate" even after she had died, "I meet another evil whenever I earn new clothing,” She recalled in one letter, imploring her aide to take action against people she named on the list. “I will retaliate against them even after I die."
Regardless of Jang's moving accusations, it remains how aggressively the police will pursue the reopening of the case, as well as how successful they will be in procuring new evidence in order to support her claims.
During the initial investigation back in 2009, tens upon tens of entertainment bigwigs were questioned as to their relationship with the late Jang upon the basis that she was forced to have sex with them in exchange for receiving favorable treatment in the notoriously competitive industry.
Based upon their findings, the authorities demanded that 20 figures be indicted. However, prosecution refused to act, claiming a lack of concrete evidence. Of the 20, only two, Jang's manager and the head of her entertainment agency, were successfully indicted found guilty of abusing the actress.
Senior investigators also denied any relation between Jang and the questioned high-profile figures via news briefing in 2009, maintaining the allegations against the 31 were "groundless."
However, this latest development is exuding a great deal of pressure, as it has recently come into suspicion that police and persecution may have knowingly covered up critical evidence against the figures in question. Following SBS' coverage of Jang's letters yesterday morning, the public is demanding that justice be done by way of the late actress.

Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo Officially Broke up

Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo who known as one of the highest-profile celebrity couples finally call it quits to their almost two years relationship. Both decide to stay silent on their break-up and focus on their works.

"The two had naturally drifted apart being busy with their respective shoots for dramas and movies, as well as pursuing activities overseas, and they were also stressed with groundless rumors of them breaking up and excessive interest in them so they only grew further apart without having time to overcome these matters," Hyun Bin's agency AM Entertainment explained in a press release.

"Early this year, they agreed to split up but did not announce this officially because they did not want the public to turn their attention to their breakup instead of their work nor let the personal issue be a hindrance to the last day Hyun Bin would have with his fans upon entering the military," AM went onto state.

* Silent killer in every relationship is when people start to drift apart and lack of conversation... no matter how strong you hold on it, without communication even a good thing is a bad one. Wish both will soon find their happiness.
