Actor Kim Sung-min Charged With Using Drugs

Prosecutors have charged actor Kim Sung-min with using methamphetamine and smoking marijuana.

The Seoul Central Prosecutors' Office said Wednesday that Kim has been suspected of smuggling meth into Korea in April and September of 2008, as well as August of this year, from a local in Cebu of the Philippines through his underwear or travelling bag and taking the controlled substance a total four times since September.

Kim also allegedly smoked marijuana over three occasions in May and September of this year.

Kim, 36, was arrested early this month, putting fans and the entertainment industry into a state of shock since Kim has long maintained an image as a well-mannered and trustworthy actor with a cheerful and mild disposition.

His popularity had climbed in recent months after starting to appear in the "What Makes a Man" segment of KBS reality show "Happy Sunday" this year but was immediately booted off the show after news broke -- producers cut out all scenes containing Kim in yesterday's episode.

Kim, who debuted as a stage actor in 1995, had gained fame in 2002 after starring in "Miss Mermaid" and has since appeared in a steady number of movies and dramas including "Lotus Family (2004)," "Couple or Trouble (2006)," "Glory of the Family (2008)," and "What's for Dinner? (2009)"

Kim Hyun-Joong To Be Absent For "Naughty Kiss" Event in Taiwan

Singer and actor Kim Hyun-joon will be absent from the promotional event for "Naughty Kiss" in Taiwan.

A PR official from his agency KEYEAST told 10Asia over the phone on Wednesday, "We were discussing Kim's appearance at the 'Naughty Kiss' promotional event on December 26 in Taiwan but we've decided he won't take part in it since he has some health issues."

She went onto explain that the 24-year-old heartthrob is not severely ill but needs time to rest since he has led a busy schedule after his last project.

Kim made his debut as the leader of the popular boy band SS501 in 2005. He rose to stardom after starring in the popular TV series "Boys Over Flowers." He recently played the leading male role in MBC's "Naughty Kiss."

He has visited a number of countries in Asia for fan meetings and promotional events and is currently preparing to make his music comeback with a solo album next year.

MC Mong Attends His Third Trial

Singer MC Mong, who was recently charged with suspicions of intentionally extracting his teeth in order to dodge his military draft, attended his third trial on December 20th at the 519th Seoul Central District Court.

The six-hour-long trial included the testimony of five witnesses, all of whom were MC Mong’s dentists. The day’s hearing focused on interrogating the issue behind the validity of the 46th and 47th teeth extractions. All five dentists present were his dentists in 2004.

At the second hearing, all five revealed that MC Mong’s teeth were already deteriorated, causing him to be in great pain. “A first glance with the naked eye would have shown that they were in a bad condition,” they stated.

When asked by the judge as to why he was not consistent in visiting one dentist, MC Mong could not come up with an answer. Furthermore, after it was revealed that there were no records of his extractions and consultation fees, the dentist in question answered, “We had just installed a new electronic register so there was a moment of confusion. Regarding the consultation fees, the nurses did not ask MC Mong to pay because he is MC Mong (a celebrity).”

When asked whether MC Mong made any mention of draft dodging during the time of his teeth extractions, the witnesses provided answers that were different from those recorded during the investigation.

In the investigations, they had stated, “We discussed his draft problems and he intentionally extracted his teeth in order to dodge it.” However, once in the court, witnesses stated, “The police investigations were held in a pressuring and forceful environment. They led us to reply in the manner they wanted.”

After the trial was held, MC Mong refused to make any further statements and returned home. He wrote on his mini-homepage, “I will wait for the next trial. I cannot even breathe, but I request that you wait for me.”

Korean actor Jung Il-woo has posted a picture from his recent trip to a ski resort on his official Twitter site.

Last Monday, the 23-year-old heartthrob uploaded a picture of himself on a ski lift with a comment below saying,

"I'm at ski resort~^_^."

Fans who have seen the picture have left responses such as "I love seeing your pictures~I hope you had a fun time," "red nose" and "You look like you're freezing!"

"The Love of Pygmalion" wins grand prize at 2010 Korea Contents Award

Mobile drama "The Love of Pygmalion," which stars Korean actors Kim Jun and Kim Jae-wook, won the grand prize at 2010 Korea Contents Award today.

Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), the host of the ceremony, announced in a press release Monday that "Pygmalion" won the grand prize under the digital content category during the 2010 Korea Contents Awards held at Nuritkum Square in Seoul.

The show first aired on Japan's mobile phone channel BeeTV in mid-March and is jointly produced by Japan's major entertainment firm AVEX and mobile telecommunications service provider NTT Docomo.

"Pygmalion," helmed by Korean director Kim Yoon-chul of TV series "My Name is Kim Sam-soon," also stars Japanese actress Minamisawa Nao who plays the role of Mika, a woman who lost her memories regarding her lover Hyung-joon (played by Kim Jun).

The drama also won the title of the No. 1 show amongst all series on some 40 other channels in the country for two straight weeks.

SidusHQ To Release 2011 Love Project Calender

Top Korean talent house SidusHQ will release a love project calendar featuring all 34 of their stars, according to the agency on Monday. 

SidusHQ announced in a press release that the calendar titled "2011 Love Project Hanbok Calendar," including photographs of SidusHQ stars such as Jay Park, Song Joong-ki, Uhm Ki-joon and Jang Hyuk dressed in the Korean traditional costume hanbok, will go on sale starting today till the end of January. 

It focuses on the theme of hanbok and hopes to spread the beauty of the clothing worldwide. Also, funds collected from calendar sales will be donated to Compassion Korea to help the less fortunate children around the world. 

"The stars of SidusHQ have come together for this calendar project and it is very significant that some of the biggest names in the industry want to share the meaning of hanbok," an official from SidusHQ was quoted as saying. 

Founded in 1999 by EBM Production Corporation, SidusHQ focuses on various aspects of the entertainment industry such as managing celebrities, drama and music as well as film content.
