MC Mong tops music charts with sixth album

The embattled South Korean hip-hop artist MC Mong, who was once mired in controversy over draft evasion, topped major local music charts with his latest track for the second straight day.

As of Tuesday morning, the title track “Did you miss me?,” off his sixth full-length album “Miss Me or Diss Me,” took the No.1 spot on all ten online real-time music charts including Naver Music, MelOn, Daum and Mnet after its release on Monday.

The 13-track album comes five years after the release of his previous full-length album, “Humanimal” in 2009. The punky title song, featuring Jinsil of vocal group Mad Soul child, tells of MC Mong’s inner conflicts before he returned to the K-pop scene.

MC Mong’s unexpectedly strong performance on the music charts surprised the K-pop scene as the public anger towards him still remains over his alleged draft dodging.

The 35-year-old rapper kept low for nearly four years after being charged with deliberately delaying his military duty in 2010.

MC Mong allegedly paid dentists to pull out two of his teeth to be exempted from the mandatory military service, although he claimed that the teeth removal was for medical reasons.

Given the persistent public outcry, it remains unclear whether he will make any appearance on TV to promote his album.

MC Mong debuted as a member of the hip-hop group People Crew in 1998. The artist rose to prominence after appearing on the MBC sitcom “Non-Stop 4.” After he launched his solo career as a rapper in 2004, his upbeat music and comedic style gained broad popularity.

MC Mong is BACK!

I thought I'll just happy with the news about him joining Wellmade Yedang for his come back. But with this latest news coming up... seriously I'm finally typing again. Hahahaha

I've miss him a lot. Thank you for coming back.

"Entertainer MC Mong is gearing up to join an entertainment show on cable channel tvN, according to a report by Ilgan Sports, an affiliate of the Korea JoongAng Daily.

He will be on a new reality show that is being formed now. Neither the name of the program nor the filming schedule has been set yet.

The report said broadcaster asked MC Mong to join and the entertainer is also positive in taking the offer.

He has stayed away from any media exposure after he was involved in a lawsuit. He was suspected of having pulled out healthy teeth to avoid his military duty. He was found to be not guilty in 2012."

Will Mc Mong Comeback to Variety Show?

I wish to see him in variety show. I love his songs and I love his comical appearance... Just let him comeback. Wish there is no stupid issue brings up to shut him down again.

"MC Mong's comeback as a singer has been nearly confirmed for fall, and people are wondering whether or not he'll also make a comeback in a show variety program. There has been a mention of MC Mong working with Na Young Suk director, because they've worked together for "1 Night 2 Days" together before.
In response, Na Young Suk said, "I've never spoke with MC Mong about a new program. We sometimes meet with the old 2 Days 1 Night members and speak about working together again, but that's about it."
In the past, Na Young Suk and MC Mong have reached over a 40 percent rating with "2 Days and 1 Night," proving their fantastic interaction.
However, MC Mong said he will concentrate more on this music comeback rather than TV programs.
MC Mong's agency said, "MC Mong is currently finishing up the last of his music works in the United States. He will show a variety of different music."
The press wasn't as kind to MC Mong's comeback. Because his break from the industry was due to an issue regarding the army, which is one of the most sensitive issues in Korea, it won't be easy for MC Mong to stand up for himself."

MC Mong Becomes Labelmates with Girl’s Day, Preparing for Comeback

Singer MC Mong will be making his comeback to the entertainment industry after a four-year hiatus.

Rumors about him meeting up with industry officials have been circulating for the past month, and according to sources in the industry, MC Mong recently signed an exclusive contract with Wellmade Yedang. His new album will be released at the end of this year.

Although the singer signed a contract with Wellmade Yedang, his comeback will be managed by DreamT Entertainment, which was acquired by Wellmade Yedang six months ago. This will make MC Mong and Girl’s Day new labelmates.

A source in the music industry explained, “After signing the contract, MC Mong and Wellmade Yedang are discussing various matters, and thus have not yet officially begun preparing for the album. His return will not take place immediately, but rather after a while. He is largely supported by his celebrity acquaintances, and wants to become a source of strength for everyone.”

After being accused of intentionally delaying his enlistment in the military for years in 2010, the singer went through a series of trials and quietly withdrew from the entertainment industry. He has been reportedly suffering from anxiety and even depression.

Another source commented, “MC Mong was supposed to release an album under his previous agency, but did not after stopping his activities due to the military evasion scandal. To help him start of anew, the agency helped to solve his problems as MC Mong went through a very hard time.”

The upcoming album will be the singer’s first in five years, his latest one being “Humanimal” in 2009.

MC Mong: “I Probably Am a Dead Man Already”

On Oct. 19, MC Mong, the embattled rapper who all but vanished from public view following the alleged military dodging scandal, gave his final defense at the fourth hearing of the trial at the Seoul Central Court.

MC Mong started out by saying, “As the past year went by, being guilty or not guilty became meaningless to me. It’s been very hard for me as well as my family members…I love being around people, but because of the scandal, I didn’t step out of my house at all the past year. I can’t even make eye contact with people anymore. I probably am a dead man already. I don’t know how much more I have to reveal myself to make people believe me. Everything is my fault and I regret everything.”

He also revealed that his father is visually impaired, continuing to say, “Just like my father, I’m suffering from glaucoma, so I just thought I didn’t necessarily have to enlist in the military. I’m also a bit slow to these things and so didn’t get any eye treatment.”

To close out his statement, MC Mong said, “I have no intention of returning to the entertainment industry, nor do I dream of producing music in the future. I just want to lead a normal life. For the rest of my life, I will do volunteer work and publicly apologize my wrongdoings.”

MC Mong has been charged for intentionally extracting teeth in order to avoid the two-year mandatory military service in Korea. He was initially given a six-month jail sentence, one year probation, and 120 hours of public service. Meanwhile, the prosecutors demanded a two year sentence for MC Mong at today’s trial. MC Mong’s attorneys, however, rejected the demand. The next hearing will take place on Nov. 16.

MC Mong not entirely acquitted in the public's eyes

Singer MC Mong, who was tried for military evasion, was determined to be innocent by the court. However, the public still thinks of him as guilty, and wants some kind of punishment to be meted out.

On April 11th, MC Mong was judged not guilty on the count of military evasion, but guilty on the count of an unlawful interference with the execution of duty. He was sentenced to six months imprisonment on a one year suspended term, together with a hundred and twenty hours of community service.

MC Mong, who was tearful on the March 28th trial when he pleaded against the two year imprisonment term that the prosecution was pushing for, showed a much calmer side on April 11th. His acquittal should have alleviated the suspicion previously cast on him.

However, for the large part, the response from the public shows that they do not trust the judgment entirely. Instead, there are a lot of people who remain unconvinced, dismissing the judgment as a stroke of good luck on MC Mong's part.

Comments by these people tend to go along the direction of "Preferential treatment for celebrities when it comes to enlistment". MC Mong's claim that his teeth have been weak since he was young have received callous indifference from the public.

In particular, the fact that MC Mong got implants a year after he was exempted from the army seems to further embroil the issue in controversy. Essentially, MC Mong wasn't able to entirely rid himself of suspicions even through the lengthy trials; in fact, the prosecution intends to appeal against the court's decision.

Ever since the investigations started, MC Mong has been going through a nightmarish six months. He has been deeply hurt after OBS broadcasting station's "News 755" first raised the issue on June 30, 2010.

As soon as he was branded as a "military service corruption suspect," the public immediately lost all confidence in MC Mong, turning their backs on him. Since then, he has pretty much been stigmatized, with members of the public clamoring for him to "just go to the army." Even though he has expressed such a wish himself, his previous exemption still stands as a result of the court's judgment.

MC Mong -- whose songs have conquered online music sites, and whose wit has distinguished him on entertainment programs -- has disappeared from the scene for six whole months. His old nicknames "Hit-maker MC Mong" and "Talented MC Mong" have vanished together with him; for now, he is only "Doubtful MC Mong."

MC Mong expresses his feelings through first official press conference

On April 19th, rapper MC Mong held his official press conference at the Grand Hilton Hotel in Hongeun-dong and revealed his feelings to an audience of 200 reporters on his trials that have been taking place for the past 10 months.

His report was as follows:

“I would like to begin by apologizing to the citizens of Korea for disturbing society. All this while, I've been running according to so many schedules, and it’s true that I had fear of enlisting in the army. The enlistment of a celebrity is taken very sensitively by my agency, so I had no option but to follow their decisions.

However, I have absolutely no excuses to make in the face of the thoughtless way I handled my duty to national defense. I would like to apologize once more time.
It is not true that I brought damage to my teeth in order to earn an exemption from the military.
On the internet post that netizens discovered, I would like to say that it was just written from the viewpoint of one man out of the many that must enlist. If I had truly seek a way to earn an exemption, I would not have written it under my own ID. At the time I wrote the post, I did not think that it would bring about such big misunderstandings.
I had left my teeth in pain for so long that the pain just became a part of my life. It was hard at first because of the financial difficulties my family was going through, as well as my busy schedule, which didn't warrant any time for me to get treatment. I was also embarrassed about the fact that I was in pain.
Under the advice of my dentist, who told me that my teeth would not only give me aesthetic problems, but detrimental to my health as well, he put in nine needles while under a general anesthesia. He had told me that it wouldn't hurt if I was under general anesthesia, so after much hesitation, I agreed to the operation. However, I have not gotten not even one implant since that procedure, and am just living with needles.
Because I believe that I must do my best for the people that love me, I have been taking full participation in investigations. Unfortunately, I do feel that I am guilty against the citizens of this nation for inflicting such wounds. This is not an attempt to earn popularity or public sentiment. I merely want to be confident with myself in the face of my duties to our national defense.
In order for myself to enlist in the army, I must be judged guilty, but I cannot say I did something that I did not do. That is why, at this moment, I am unsure of what decision I need to make. I can’t do this and I can’t do that.

I’ve undergone a lot of trauma and pain through my trials, but it was an opportunity for me to grow. I will be working against my arrogance with the heart of dedication in order to fill what I lack. I would like to apologize once again for harming the hearts of our nation’s people, as well as my industry seniors and juniors.”

* Feel sad about this.

Is it so hard for netizens to show some forgiveness to him?
I wonder if this is going to happen to their own family... how would they react... what will they do?
punish them? kick them out of their house? kill them?

Just because he is MC Mong... they try to kill him multiple times, just because he is MC Mong they react differently... just because he is MC Mong the public figure they point their fingers and put all the blame on him.

He is wrong but it doesn't mean he's the bad people. At least he do try to do good deeds... at least he really try hard to be good.

Seriously... if its not because I fancy Korean culture... I don't think I can accept the way they think. But still I can't react that way coz I'm not in the position to judge... but still kind of disappointed with it.

MC Mong’s draft dodging case finally comes to a close

Rapper MC Mong’s infamous legal battle over accusations of intentional draft dodging finally came to a close on April 11th. The verdict? MC Mong has been sentenced to six months of imprisonment, probation for one year, and 120 hours of community service.

The court acknowledged that there was a delay in his military enlistment, however, they were unable to determine whether the star was guilty for extracting teeth for the purpose of avoiding his military draft.

Investigators came forward to state,

“We were not convinced that he didn't know of his delayed enlistment, and we are certain of our conclusions and subsequent charges.”

So would MC Mong have to serve with the military later in the future?

A representative of the Office of Military Manpower Administration stated,

“Although he has been convicted for interfering with a government official in the execution of his duties, he was cleared on accusations of violating military service laws. Therefore, the Military Manpower Administration cannot take further action. He must be convicted of charges for violating the military service act in order to be illegible for a draft retest. The exempt status is still valid for this case.”

Regardless of the verdict, MC Mong has suffered greatly physically and emotionally since the trial begun and an uncertain future awaits him in the entertainment scene.

* The good news about this news is... it's over. Mc Mong might still need to fight his feelings about this, but still he can now feel at ease, he don't have to go through all this again and again. I hope he'll get back on his feet and moving forwards.

Mong-aaa~
Be strong!
6 month... you know time is moving so just keep moving
1 year probation... consider it as someone is babysitting you, all u have to do is be good
120 hours community services... with your experience in 2D1N... you'll pass it.
So, Mong-aaa~
make sure to stand strong and be healthy. Nothing can stop you... and COME BACK!

MC Mong breaks out in tears during trial, two years in prison demanded

Since last year, MC Mong has been attending trials back and forth due to his alleged draft dodging. Today, on March 28th, the court held the closing argument process.

During the trial today, the prosecutors questioned the singer, who seemed to have poured out all the burden that he had been keeping inside for the past months.

He stated in tears, “It was hard to live when this whole thing surfaced. I really had no clue about the rumors that I was fabricating my enlistment issues, but I won’t be changing the words that I have said up till now. Something that is wrong was definitely not done. I am very sorry and hurt for those who have been disappointed with me. I am not doing this to restore my reputation, or for money and fame. I am woeful. I sometimes even get thoughts that I have actually done something wrong, but I am not a liar and I will take whatever decision they choose.”

After revealing his inner feelings, MC Mong wiped off his tears and left the site.

At the same court, MC Mong’s final trial will be held on April 11th, where a decision will finally be made.

Dentist Jung, “Sorry to MC Mong for Creating Misunderstanding"

The dentist of MC Mong, who is being investigated for taking payment and pulling out MC Mong’s teeth so that he can be except from serving in the army in return, cleared up some misunderstanding about the payment he received.

The 5th court session for MC Mong was held on the 7th.

The witness at the time was the dentist Jung and Kim. Jung is seen to be the key witness in the case.

Jung is the person who sent the letter to MC Mong back in October and apparently received a large sum of money from him.

He denied the accusations that the 80 million won that he received was for helping him to avoid serving in the army.

Jung said “the money I got from MC Mong was not because I helped him avoid service, but because he owed me that money since I invested in his online shopping mall.”

According to Jung, he invested 100 million won for his shopping mall and he received a total of 460 million won in return for the investment.

Jung said

“I couldn't ask for the money earlier since MC Mong suffered a little financially because of me tempting him to invest in something else. I had to ask him for money recently since the hospital had to close down because of the case.”

He also said that he returned all of the 460 million won after taking the 100 million won that he invested initially and that the accusations about him asking a different dentist to perform the teeth removal are all false.

Jung said “His teeth were in the worst possible states. Teeth number 35 was at the point that he couldn't even use it let alone fix it. I never asked a fellow dentist to perform the extraction and neither has MC Mong.”

He finished by saying

“I am sorry to him because the letter was revealed to the public, sparking rumors and false accusations. I didn't have any bad intentions but unfortunately, the media released the letter.”

MC Mong’s next court session is set to occur on the 28th. The last statement from the lawyers is set to happen on this day.

MC Mong’s dentist criticizes the police for unlawful interrogation

MC Mong’s dentist revealed to the press that the police interrogated him unlawfully and asserted that his past confessions were falsified. Rapper MC Mong is currently under investigation for trying to dodge Korea’s mandatory military service, and his dentist attended his fifth trial and served as a witness.

While on a TV broadcast, Dentist Jung previously claimed that he received 80,000,000 won from the star for keeping the letter about MC Mong’s ‘intentional’ teeth extraction a secret.

However, during the trial, Jung said, “The reported content of the letter is far from the truth” and denied that the broadcast was true. He added, “I just wrote what the police told me to write at that time. Although MC Mong’s teeth were in terrible condition, I did not tell him to get them extracted. The money that I received came from the money I invested in MC Mong’s online shopping mall.”

He also complained about the harsh nature of the investigation and added that the police was trying to create false stories. Dentist Jung is currently serving a sentence for drug possession, and elaborated that, “During the investigation, the police forced me to ‘confess’ the truth about MC Mong’s teeth. They also told me that they would give me a plea deal if I gave a good eyewitness account. The police came many times and interrogated me during the time when MC Mong let down his guard and claimed his innocence. They also said that my dental license could be taken away.”

MC Mong’s sixth trial is set to commence at 2:00 PM on March 28th. He is set to make his final defense during the trial.

MC Mong attends his fourth trial

MC Mong attended his fourth trial on February 8th at the 519th Seoul Central District Court.
To recap, the prosecution is asserting that MC Mong had extracted his teeth with the intention to dodge his military draft. In this fourth trial, a witness by the name of Lee was examined, as he was the dentist responsible for extracting a tooth from MC Mong.

Lee revealed that the entertainer came to him on November 12th, 2006, and that he personally suggested to MC Mong that his tooth should be removed. He stated, “Before I extracted tooth no.35, MC Mong was already exempt from the military. I suggested that he extract it, and he agreed.”

He continued, “At the time, his tooth was in severe condition, which required endodontic treatment. During his second visit, he asked how he could receive a medical diagnosis for soldiers; he also revealed that a tooth he previously treated was giving him pain. After checking, we decided to extract it.”

Lee revealed that MC Mong was missing 10 teeth at the time, and wondered whether extracting another one would exempt him from the military. In any case, the original tooth he was looking at was discovered to be in such a deteriorated state that it required an extraction.
Lee then downloaded a score guide for exemptions and found that MC Mong would have been already eligible prior to the tooth’s extraction, which further demonstrated that MC Mong received treatments out of pain, and not with the intention to draft-dodge. Lee revealed, “I told MC Mong that he was already eligible, but he showed no response.”

MC Mong’s legal representatives added, “The medical certificate for soldiers is a document required for his physical test – it’s not a document one asks for when in need of an exemption.”

MC Mong Attends His Third Trial

Singer MC Mong, who was recently charged with suspicions of intentionally extracting his teeth in order to dodge his military draft, attended his third trial on December 20th at the 519th Seoul Central District Court.

The six-hour-long trial included the testimony of five witnesses, all of whom were MC Mong’s dentists. The day’s hearing focused on interrogating the issue behind the validity of the 46th and 47th teeth extractions. All five dentists present were his dentists in 2004.

At the second hearing, all five revealed that MC Mong’s teeth were already deteriorated, causing him to be in great pain. “A first glance with the naked eye would have shown that they were in a bad condition,” they stated.

When asked by the judge as to why he was not consistent in visiting one dentist, MC Mong could not come up with an answer. Furthermore, after it was revealed that there were no records of his extractions and consultation fees, the dentist in question answered, “We had just installed a new electronic register so there was a moment of confusion. Regarding the consultation fees, the nurses did not ask MC Mong to pay because he is MC Mong (a celebrity).”

When asked whether MC Mong made any mention of draft dodging during the time of his teeth extractions, the witnesses provided answers that were different from those recorded during the investigation.

In the investigations, they had stated, “We discussed his draft problems and he intentionally extracted his teeth in order to dodge it.” However, once in the court, witnesses stated, “The police investigations were held in a pressuring and forceful environment. They led us to reply in the manner they wanted.”

After the trial was held, MC Mong refused to make any further statements and returned home. He wrote on his mini-homepage, “I will wait for the next trial. I cannot even breathe, but I request that you wait for me.”

MC Mong Has Locked Himself Up In His Home

Many have been wondering what happened to MC Mong after his recent indictment. The entertainer has been reported to be in voluntary seclusion; he refuses to leave his home due to the amount of press trying to dig up some additional news regarding his draft-dodging scandal.

MC Mong hasn’t been officially convicted for his crime, but it’s likely that he will not surface in the outside world until he’s been sentenced by a judge.

A source close to MC Mong said, “He hasn’t stepped a foot outside of his house. He hasn’t even been buying everyday necessities. After the incident, paparazzi and press are waiting around for him around his house. He doesn’t want to see anyone.”

Police Uncover Internet Post By MC Mong Asking About Dental Exemptions

The Seoul Central District Court has just discovered that MC Mong left a question on internet portal site ‘Naver‘ about his military service, thereby showing intent to dodge his service.

On the 11th, The Seoul Central District Court stated, “The current situation has him very likely to be prosecuted for draft dodging.”

MC Mong’s internet post dated back to January 2, 2005 and was left under the ID “thugmong1″. He wrote,

“I checked the military laws and it says that I can receive an exemption, but what if I don’t? It’s a dental problem. I currently don’t have 8 molars. I have one false molar. With just this, I receive a predicted score of 51 on my health test. However, one of my canine teeth and four of my front teeth are dentures, bringing me down to about 47 or 49. I printed the information I found on this site and found that a score between 49 and 51 is the minimum needed to get a level 5 exemption. Are there any instances where they don’t give you a level 5 exemption if you get re-tested? Do they just strictly go by military laws? They only told me to check my physical ranking and I need a more detailed response. Have a lot of luck in the new year.”
An army surgeon replied to his post by saying that a person with worse conditions is currently serving in the army.

Prosecutors believe that MC Mong extracted an additional tooth after reading this reply and deciding that his probability for exemption was not high enough.

Authorities have also charged an entertainment agency CEO, ‘A‘ (45), along with a military affairs broker, ‘B (33), for aiding MC Mong in his draft dodge.

To recap, MC Mong extracted a total of four teeth from August of 2004 up to December of 2006 at a dental clinic in Kangnam.

He bribed ‘B’, the owner of a private industry design school, to obtain a false proof of registration, earning him a three-month delay in his service. This was repeated five times for a total of 422 deferred days.

MC Mong was turned over for trial after a discussion amongst a citizen committee.

He might messed up long ago and for not even trying to stop... I don't know what to say... well I'm still a fan. I've fall for his musics and I guess his musics just give me one reason to forgive him... I guess...

To all his family and friends... for not trying to stop him and helping him out.... I seriously think you all have problem.
