Rain To Fly Into LA Next Week For MTV Awards

Asia’s most celebrated star Rain will fly off to Los Angeles next week to attend this year's MTV Movie Awards, according to his agency on Friday.

An official at J. Tune Entertainment said Rain will depart from Korea on June 3 to attend the 2010 MTV Movie Awards for which he has received an invitation from MTV's headquarters.

The singer and actor has been named one of the five nominees in the "Biggest Badass Star" category for his role as a ninja in Hollywood flick "Ninja Assassin" last year alongside Hollywood blue-chips Angelina Jolie, Channing Tatum, Chris Pine and Sam Worthington.

Nominees were selected by fans who cast online votes on MTV's website to choose their favorite 'badass' actor out of 22 potential nominees.

Rain, whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon, has released six studio albums to date and has held several tours throughout Asia and in the U.S. including a sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden.

The singer also ventured into acting, starring in several hit television dramas including "Sang Doo! Let's Go To School" (KBS, 2003), "Full House" (KBS, 2004) and later making his big screen debut in Park Chan-wook's surrealist comedy pic "I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK."

He made his Hollywood debut in 2008 through the Wachowski Brothers' action flick "Speed Racer." The Korean star reportedly made such a great impression on the famous sibling duo that they offered him the lead role in last year's martial arts flick "Ninja Assassin."

This Past Few Days ^^

It's been a while :)

I just got back after several days taking off to celebrate my niece 7th birthday.
I was driving alone and listening to musics all the way for 8 hours... what a lonely journey for me :)

Even the road was so lonely today.... it was a lonely 8 hours for me and the road...

Love the clouds ^^

I spent some quality times with my cousins, friends and families while taking off. Believe me sometimes I just lost on my own world that make me forgot there is so many things left out and it's good to have a short trip.

The birthday party was awesome... the best thing about my niece 7th birthday is the magic show... okay she got a lot of present... what a lucky girl...

Now I'm back and I'll try to update more and more ^^

Park Hwi-soon "Guarantees High Ratings" For "Hot Brothers"

The cast of variety program "Hot Brothers": (From left) Tak Jae-hoon, Park Myung-soo, Han Sang-jin, Noh Yoo-min, Simon D, Park Hwi-soon, Lee Ki-kwang and Kim Gu-ra [MBC]

The "Hot Brothers" segment in MBC's variety show "Sunday Sunday Night" is like a mutated version of a regular variety program. Unlike the common real variety shows where they assign cast members with a certain challenge and show viewers how they carry it out, the eight members of "Hot Brothers" -- namely Park Myung-soo, Tak Jae-hoon, Kim Gu-ra, Han Sang-jin, Park Hwi-soon, Simon D, Lee Ki-kwang and Noh Yoo-min -- create a situation drama within pre-established circumstances on the set. In the "Avatar Blind Date" episode, which already aired on television, unmarried members Park Hwi-soon, Simon D, Lee Ki-kwang and Noh Yoo-min were seen controlled by members Park Myung-soo, Tak Jae-hoon, Kim Gu-ra and Han Sang-jin -- a situation which produced unnatural situations that were delivered in a comic way. On "Hot Brothers," there may be a fixed set-up but it is up to the cast members to lead the situation and the drama.

Such set-ups in the show was revealed at the show's press conference, held May 24 at MBC Broadcasting Center in Seoul's Youido district. In the "Loser's Round" episode, the third and final installment of "Avatar Blind Date Series" where the master of the avatar changes from one member to another, members were newly paired up and gave viewers a new reason to laugh than during the first and second episodes. In the fourth episode titled "Know Thy Brother," the cast were given an absurd situation and seen struggling through it, each in his own way. Can "Hot Brothers," which stands between being a reality-based variety show and a sitcom, really ignite a hot spark among variety shows with its unprecedented, mutated humor?

Kim Gu-ra (left) and Tak Jae-hoon [MBC]

Q: You said that the new "Hot Brothers" segment will revive the popularity of "Sunday Sunday Night." All of you must feel quite determined about doing it.
Tak jae-hoon: When the segment line-up changed in "Sunday Sunday Night," I joined "Danbi" [another segment on the show] and tried to inspire viewers. From now on, I will leave it to "Danbi" to inspire people and focus on providing laughs. We are going for a different approach, unlike the existing variety shows. We will work hard on creating laughters. You may even call us "dorks."
Park Myung-soo: Tak Jae-hoon and Kim Gu-ra are probably feeling a burden on their shoulders. They failed on their two previous segments. (laugh) In a way, this is their last chance. Right now, it is trendy to shoot variety shows outside the studio but we are trying to do new things that we can shoot inside the studio. The most important thing is to enjoy working on the show. I don't want to feel like I don't remember what I did today, I want to feel like I had a good time shooting today. We are trying to create new kind of humor -- such as huge laughters and a lot of fun stuff. This -- I am going to make people laugh with it. (laugh)

Park Myung-soo (left) and Noh Yoo-min [MBC]

Q: You are trying to make a new type of show but it is a red ocean market. There are many rival shows that have a group of male stars appearing in them. How are you trying to differentiate the show?
Producer Oh Yoon-hwan: I monitored the viewers' board on the show's website and I don't think that they see it as something similar to segments like "The Qualification of a Man" or "1 Night 2 Days" from KBS' "Happy Sunday." The intention behind making "Hot Brothers" was we wanted to show people that brotherhood is not limited to those who are brothers by blood. We want to show viewers how people who have different jobs and are of different ages build on their brotherly bond. Simply put, I want people to regard it as a total gift set of variety shows that charges toward laughters.
Tak Jae-hoon: I wish there was a third species other than men and women. (laugh) Then we would have a new picture. Eight of us started doing the show with the aim of sharing a brotherly bond but we were met with MBC's labor strike. We were frustrated because we were having a great time but could not get on the air for eight weeks. I thought I was going down again. (laugh) The 4.8 percent rating [for the first two episodes] bothers me, but I think it will enter the ten percent range once we hit episode four. From the fifth episode, we are trying to make a new program with an entirely different approach.

Park Hwi-soon (left) and Lee Ki-kwang [MBC]

Q: Putting Park Myung-soo, Kim Gu-ra and Tak Jae-hoon together is a new combination. How does it feel?
Park Myung-soo: It is always difficult to create a new picture and new laughs. That is why the union of new cast members is important. These days, doing the show with Kim Gu-ra and Jae-hoon has brought a new source of humor because they can make you laugh by just saying something. I hadn't worked with the younger cast members before either, but I think a lot of things will change depending on how the older guys do on the show.
Kim Gu-ra: The viewers have already pegged us as the strong, funny characters. While I was shooting the fourth episode, I realized that the key issue was how much each person contributes to the show. In the case of "Daemang" on "Sunday Sunday Night," the segment had outstanding cast such as Kim Yong-man and Shin Jung-hwan. But "Hot Brothers" is different. I appear on the segment with these guys but I am on a different level compared to them, in terms of salary and circumstances. I thought -- for the first time that I have been doing variety programs -- that I should start taking other people into my consideration. Usually I think about how I should shake things up on the program, but it is a little different this time.
Tak Jae-hoon: There are no words to express how sorry I am [that his previous variety program failed.] I will put aside my apology for the time being because I have to squash [other variety program] and get on top.

Q: Han Sang-jin, it is your first time being a regular cast member on a variety show. What kind of mindset do you have working on the program?
Han Sang-jin: It has been over ten years since I debuted as an actor but I am working on the show like I am a newcomer. When I went home, I often thought about not wanting to do it and I worried a lot too, wondering how things would turn out. During the strike, I gained more confidence after I went on an overnight trip with people and kept in touch with the younger cast members. And I set a new goal in my heart. I am going to do my best so that "Hot Brothers" can win the grand prize at the year-end Entertainment Awards ceremony. Like Park Myung-soo won grand prize for "Infinite Challenge."
Park Myung-soo: .... (shakes his head)

Q: You said that you didn't want to do the show -- why?
Han Sang-jin: After I shot the first episode, I found that watching the show and doing it were two different things. I had done a lot during the taping but I saw that didn't get much air time during the broadcast. I realized that being funny on the show is what is important, not how much I say. When you are acting, you have a script. But you don't have a script when you are doing a variety show, so it is hard. I think Park Myung-soo and Kim Gu-ra are geniuses. A lot of actors cross over to doing variety shows, but they should be as ten times more determined than they usually are when they make a decision.

Han Sang-jin (left) and Simon D [MBC]

Q: How determined are the rest of the members?
Noh Yoo-min: I was worried that people might point their fingers at me for gaining weight and looking terrible. I have to put out a new album, so I am going to lose some weight. I am not sure that I stand out in the show -- I think people just like me because I work hard.
Simon D: I have nothing to lose because I am a variety show rookie. I don't know how you are going to take this but I am making a "doggy mess." I haven't been able to make my entrance because I don't know the right timing. After I have drinks with older cast members several times, I think I will start fitting in with them one day. I come to the set feeling like someone who comes to catch a glimpse of celebrities.
Park Hwi-soon: I too am a man who has nothing more to lose. All I have left are my looks. I am a regular on a variety show for the first time in my career. Just like [Yoo] Jae-seok and [Park] Myung-soo got married after they gained popularity doing "Infinite Challenge," I want to get married too after "Hot Brothers" does well. The first and second episode have aired so far and it was as strong as ever. The real-time viewership rating went up as high as ten percent. I am a guarantee for high ratings. Keep watching the show for over a year. If the ratings doesn't climb after that, I will drop out. This is the first time that I am saying such things with confidence. Even "1 Night 2 Days" started in a four percent range in the beginning. I went to three fortunetellers and they all said the same thing -- that everything will work out after lunar March passes. (laugh)
Lee Ki-kwang: I don't really know anything because I just made my debut. I will keep building my brotherly bond with the older guys, learn how to do variety shows, grow into a better pop idol and show viewers a meaningful, fun side of myself.

Q: What are your agendas as the Chief Producer of the show?
Chief Producer Kim Young-hee: In a reality-based variety show, it is important that cast members have good chemistry with one another and that they work well with the producers. It took us three months to cast the eight members for "Hot Brothers" segment in "Sunday Sunday Night." Dozens of people went in and out during the casting process and the last one to become the eighth member was Park Myung-soo. Apart from how funny or unfunny Park Myung-soo himself was, we worried if the combination of Kim Gu-ra, Tak Jae-hoon and Park Myung-soo would mesh well. Eventually we felt confident about the new combination and cast them. You are saying that "Hot Brothers" is a variety show for just men and that it might be a red ocean. But if you look at the viewers' board, you will see that they are really passionate [about the show]. It is hard to get a reaction like this from viewers at such initial stage of the show -- and I myself have been directing TV shows for twenty years. I can tell you that it is the most entertaining show out of all the variety programs that air on three networks.

Photos of Jaebum in Taiwan are Gathering Interest

Pictures of Jaebum in Taiwan have been gathering hot interest.

A fan who is currently studying in Taiwan (ID AnAn Anekrachdaporn) coincidently bumped into Jaebum on the 21st in Taipei at a night market, and posted up photos and explained what happened that night.

The poster wrote "My friend bravely asked him if we could take a picture. I was so shocked that I just stood there thinking "Is that really Jaebum". We told him we were Thai and he greeted switch "Sawaddee krup".

Fans are guessing that there is a high chance that Jaebum went to Taiwan regarding music productions. Since he has been casted for Hype Nation, and will soon be promoting solo, there are opinions that he was there for producing songs for the OST and other album works.

Meanwhile fans who have seen the photos of Jaebum in Taiwan have left comments such as "Soon, he will be in Korea", "I want to be in Taiwan", "I wonder why he went to Taiwan", expressing their curiosity.

Dream Concert Chants Park Jaebum During 2PM's Performance

이날 2PM은 타이틀곡 '위드아웃 유(Without U)'와 '돈트 스톱 캔트 스톱(Don't Stop Can't Stop)'을 불렀다.

2PM attended Dream Concert 2010 on the 22nd at 7 PM. 2PM sang Without U and Don't Stop Can't Stop. Like any other artist, as soon as they entered the stage, they were met with chants of 2PM which was later mixed with chants of 2PM's terminated member, Park Jaebum.

When 2PM stood on stage at the last Dream Concert before the final termination of Park Jaebum, chants of Park Jaebum had taken over the stadium but the fans were clearly in support of both 2PM and Park Jaebum.

However, this time it is different. The minute the 2PM members entered the stage, screams of Park Jaebum chants exploded from the audience, completely silencing the screams in support of 2PM. This was the first time where one artist was able to bring about such a divided reaction from the audience. It seemed as if some of the other fandoms were more in support of 2PM than their actual fans.

One fan stated, "I know what it's like for them to be waiting for Park Jaebum but it seemed a bit harsh."

Regardless, 2PM persisted and finished their stage as Ok Taecyeon continued to MC the concert.

As 2PM went on stage, thousands of fans from other fandoms began shouting 'Park Jaebum.'

Omit performance summary.

However, fandoms for other artists chanted Park Jaebum, the name of 2PM's former leader, from the start to finish of 2PM's performance. Hearing such a reaction from the fans, 2PM seemed rather shocked and hurriedly finished their stage.

Omit performance summary.

The five members of 2PM went on to the stage of Dream Concert without injured member Junsu.

What was unique about 2PM's stage was that the chants of 'Park Jaebum' were louder than the actual chants in support of the group. As 2PM sang, "Without you, I'm going to rise up as a better person," their voices were completely buried by the chanting of Park Jaebum."

Hero Jaejoong Denies Dating Japanese Model

Hero Jaejoong of Korean idol group TVXQ has denied recent rumors that he is dating Japanese model Yano Mikiko, according to a Japanese magazine Women's Weekly.

The weekly publication reported in its recent issue that Hero Jaejoong had "enjoyed a date with Japanese model Yano Mikiko near Shibuya. They were wearing masks and Mikiko had her arm through Hero Jaejoong's."

Mikiko is a popular model who has appeared on the May cover of fashion magazine Non-No.

However, both parties denied the report. Incidentally, Hero Jaejoong had also been linked to Japanese actress Abiru Yuu last November.

Hero, whose real name is Kim Jaejoong, debuted in 2004 as part of five-member boy band TVXQ. The group became one of the most phenomenal K-pop acts in the country and throughout Asia, selling numerous records and recently making history in the Japanese music scene.

The band officially stopped working as a group in Korea last year and in Japan last month due to a legal dispute between three of its members -- Hero Jaejoong, Xiah Junsu and Micky Yoochun -- and talent agency SM Entertainment over their 13-year exclusive contract.

In April, Hero Jaejoong made a successful acting debut in a Japanese TV series "Hard to Say I Love You" alongside top Japanese actors Eita and Ueno Juri of smash hit TV series "Nodame Cantabile".

SS501 New Album Due Out May 31

Korean idol group SS501 is gearing up for a comeback with their upcoming new album "DESTINATION" due out May 31, according to their agency DSP Entertainment on Tuesday.

DSP explained in a press release that some of the most talented musicians in Korea, Europe and the U.S., including prominent Korean-American music producer Steven Lee, collaborated to create the new album.

Lee, who had written and arranged all the tracks in the group's previous album "REBIRTH," also composed the title track, named "Love Ya," in the new album.

All the songs in "DESTINATION" have been arranged to piano accompaniments while incorporating a minimum of electronic sounds that are prevalent in current K-pop music.

Some of the songs included in the record are R&B tune "Let Me Be The One" and a dance number called "Crazy 4 U," which was performed by the band during their "PERSONA Asia Tour" but left out on the previous album. Fans are said to have requested that SS501 include this particular track on the new album.

SS501, who debuted in 2005 with single "Warning," made a successful comeback to the music scene last October, topping various music charts with their second mini-album "Rebirth".

They kicked off their "1st Asia Tour Persona" in Seoul last August and went on to perform in Tokyo, Taipei, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The five member group are scheduled to give a comeback performance on KBS' "Music Bank" on June 4.

Kim Hyun-Joong Gets Into Car Accident, Ok For Comeback

SS501 leader Kim Hyun-joong was involved in a car accident last week but he has suffered minor injuries, allowing his group to make their comeback to the local music scene as planned next month, according to their agency on Tuesday.

An official with DSP Media told Asia Economic Daily over the phone that Kim had gotten into the accident on Wednesday when a car he was riding in with an acquaintance collided into another car, leaving the singer with bruises and abrasions which would take two weeks to heal.

The official added however, "Kim's current condition will not affect his group's comeback set for early June," although he is taking caution in rehearsing the choreography for their new song.

Accordingly, SS501 will not perform a dance number at the upcoming annual "Dream Concert" on Saturday but "Let Me Be The One," a ballad from the boys' new album and "Just One Day" from their previous album.

SS501 is one of South Korea's most popular bands who debuted in 2005 and have been active in Korea as well as several countries in Asia, releasing numerous albums both as a group and also pursuing individual careers in acting and appearing on variety shows.

Kim, 23, made his debut on the small screen in 2009 smash-hit drama "Boys Over Flowers" which also starred Lee Min-ho and Ku Hye-sun. He is said to be in talks to appear in "Athena," the spin-off of famed TV series "IRIS."

* Another accident? I don't think this is okay... hope things were just as what his agency has stated.

Lee Hyori & Rain was once attracted to each other.

Korean pop stars Lee Hyori and Rain are making news for saying that they were both attracted to each other at one point during their decade-long friendship.

They made the remark while making a guest appearance on MBC variety talk show "Come On Over," which aired Monday evening.

"Lee Hyori is a person who has a lot of charms," said Rain on the show. "She exudes an unbelievable aura on stage but she is like a vulnerable little girl in some ways."

He went on to say, "Hyori doesn't know this but I think she has a power that attracts men."

When Lee asked Rain if he ever thought about her in a romantic way, he answered, "There is no man who would not regard Lee Hyori as a woman."

Lee then admitted to once having felt romantic feelings for Rain. "There was one time when I thought of Rain as more than just a friend -- when I bumped into him at a tanning shop," explained Lee. "He was in the next room and I heard him taking his clothes off. I started to imagine things."

The two singers, both famous for their huge sex appeal, are known to be close friends to industry insiders. When Rain recently made a comeback to the local music scene, he reportedly said that he is happy to see "one familiar face" on televised music shows, referring to Lee, who also came out with a new album titled "H-Logic."

Singer and actor Rain sings on music channel Mnet's weekly show "M! CountDown" held at the CJ E&M Center in Seoul, South Korea on May 13, 2010.
